Part of an installation of the same name, re(cul)naissance proposes a future state of unmitigated wellbeing and unashamed pleasure for faʻafafine, faʻatama, queer, trans, nonbinary and further peoples who have been violently removed from our erstwhile key roles in intellectual and ceremonial life in multiple Indigenous kinship systems.

On and On and On

I’ve spent my whole life listening to and often recording interviews with different members of my family and extended community. One of the phrases I hear most often is “on and on and on” as a way to conclude a point; or to extend it. Anishinaabe often talk in circles, or maybe to be colonized is to see how obvious and frequent the repetitions actually are. The people are the land, yet artificially codified as other. How we define the categories of personhood are all inherently tied to how we define the worth of all things; the disabled body is the unproductive body is the body without worth is the anti-colonial body. All is destroyed, life continues, and it just goes on and on and on.

Handsome Devil

Daniel Barrow | 4:35 min

Barrow uses Amiga software from the late 1980s (DeluxePaint 4) to create this romantic pink and green story of a "sissy devil" who probes the depths of internet intelligence, composing an \“advanced search\” on an antiquated search engine. Simultaneously, a naked, green, feminine artist traces the contours of her devilish destiny on her sketch pad, and then within an imaginary dating app. The “advanced search” becomes a kind of contemporary, queer, love poem.

Our Joyful Endings / Nos Fins Joyeuses

Lucie Babayan & La Fille Renne | 6:06 min

Our Joyful Endings follows the diary of a trans-masculine person who sees his own and others’ views of his body change during his transition. Between desire, apprehension and questioning. From there, comfort grows with people who share this experience.

The Capacity for Adequate Anger

Vika Kirchenbauer | 18:00 min

A return to the village where she grew up after an absence of over ten years marks the point of departure for this video work, which Vika Kirchenbauer produced for the occasion of the her first institutional solo exhibition. A collage of ephemera both personal and public traverses the distance between present and past in a self-reflexive form of artistic critique that considers contemporary art from a perspective of class. Through voiceover and flashes of imagery Kirchenbauer’s autobiographical video contemplates the sociological dimensions of negative affect, and what forms of political agency such emotions facilitate or impede.

Analogy of Light

Elian Mikkola | 9:00 min

A woman, once trapped inside a 35mm frame, is waiting to be seen. Light shapes the image, reproducing a new form of life in this dance of pixels on analogue skin. By working through multiple facets of the cinematic apparatus, ANALOGY OF LIGHT is a transfeminist dissection of a single film frame.

Goddess of Speed

Frédéric Moffet | 8:21 min

A film titled Dance Movie (or, alternatively, Rollerskate) appears in many Warhol filmographies, but no work with this title has been found in the archive. The lost film, starring dancer Fred Herko, was shot in 1963. A year later, Herko leaped out of an open window while dancing to Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C Major. Inspired by descriptions of the missing film and the memoir of Herko’s best friend, the poet Diane Di Prima, Goddess of Speed poetically reimagines the last days of the young performer.

Pandrog

Pandrog is an exploration and poetic call for Black people to escape the terms and identities created by western imperialism. Two lovers run away from Babylon, a subversive look at gender and its trappings within the Black diaspora.

Queer Dream Triptych

Heart Shaped

Grace Mitchell, Sofia Theodore-Pierce, | 13:00 min

Heart Shaped examines the transient lives of seven guests staying at a themed hotel in Wisconsin. Self and strangers overlap through shared spaces and improvisational choreography. Letters between the two filmmakers explore blurred identity, long distance intimacy, and the erotics of collaboration. "One hand on the clit, the other on the mind."

You can’t get what you want but you can get me

Samira Elagoz & Z Walsh | 13:00 min

A unique slideshow documenting two long-haired trans men falling madly in love. Over the course of one year, the artist couple Samira Elagoz & Z Walsh gathered photographs from real-life events such as their first kiss, meeting each other's parents, long-distance thirst traps, a beach wedding, and top surgery and its subsequent recovery. A sweet and steamy celebration of T4T love with life and art all tangled up.

The Living Wardrobe

Martí arrives in Bilbao for an artistic residency. His clothes take up only a small part of the huge wardrobe in his new room. When he meets someone, the wardrobe gradually begins to fill up. But where did the emptiness go, the free space, the little corner of his own? Did the wardrobe swallow it all, or was it love?
