PERFORMANCE ONE

Pas de deux
Taking its cues from language, in this case the dictionary definitions of “man” and “woman” Pas de Deux (2023) is a performance which asserts queer resistance around the binary that gendered language enforces. Sheppard examines language through this performance as an approach to reading, understanding and negotiating boundary legibility. Returning to the body in order to navigate queerly through language Sheppard presents a set of instructions that offer and encourage a space to discover movement in the margins of language.

PERFORMANCE TWO

Crepuscular Rhythms
Crepuscular Rhythms is a performance score that notates dawn and dusk as queer times of day. Recognizing that twilight provides protective cover for non normative bodies and identities in our environment, Crepuscular Rhythms was originally performed as a series of walks while wearing light sensitized T-Shirts. For this iteration viewers will be invited to join me at dusk at a point somewhere approximately 1 hour’s walk from an endpoint space. Everyone will be given a light sensitized T-shirt and we will walk for the duration of dusk (approximately 1 hour) to the endpoint space.
