Lock Up Your Sons And Daughters! Anti-Queer Films from 1950 ö 1990
Curated by Bill Taylor

spuzzlightyear@yahoo.com

I first had an idea for this show three years ago. I knew this stuff was out there, and I knew someday I wanted to present a show to display what came out of religious organizations, civic groups and schools that show what kind of misfits homosexuals are. This show was originally put together for Out On Screen (Vancouver's Gay and Lesbian Film Festival) in 2001. From there, the people at the Hamburg Gay and Lesbian Film Festival heard about it, and encouraged me to put it on there. Encouraged by this, I decided to see what other festivals were interested in it, and to my amazement, a flood of interest from festivals, both gay and straight came my way. I'm totally excited to show this to you, and I encourage you to email me about what youâve seen. Thanks for coming.

Boys Beware
(USA, 1963, 12 min.)
Produced by Sid Davis productions, this nasty nasty film presents the stay away from strangers film updated to the 70's. Amazing styles, fashions, but a curious way-out-there approach to how to deal with homosexuals. Surprisingly stark and nasty.

Being Different
(USA, circa 1955, 8 min.)
Poor George, he has to decide whether he wants to join the butterfly club or, well, have friends.

Activity Group Therapy ö excerpts
(USA, Circa 1957, 18 min.)
In these excerpts from a truly archaic film about group therapy, Young Albert learns how to be 'less ' by...cutting wood!

Perversion For Profit ö excerpts
(USA, 1965, 12 min.)
A simple film, but oh MAN, George Putnam (Outstanding News Reporter) lays it on for us, saying everything you god-fearing people need to know about the sickness thatâs perverting our society!

Anti Disney Video ö excerpts
(USA, circa early 90âs, 12 min.)
In the early 90's, various religious organizations went after the Disney Corporation. In these snippets, we will see what they thought what was so evil about Walt.

Soapy The Germ Fighter
(USA, 1951, 10 min.)
One of my all time favorites, features Soapy, who proves to Billy (dirty kid) that soap doesn't cause sissiness, while wearing frilly sleeves and flesh colored leotards!

The Gay Agenda
(USA, 1992, 18 min.)
This very 'Damn The Homosexuals!' video that is ever so popular these days and distributed by nutcases like The American Family Association features everyone you could ask for...fact spewing scientists, doctors talking about rimming and YES! Ex-Gay Ministry Spokespeople!

Animation Screening

Well, we may not have the usual time slot for our classic Saturday Night Cartoons program, but we certainly have what it takes to delight and send everyone off with a smile on their face, and then thereâs the program itself...
Join us for our last screening as we wrap up the festival and say "that all folks".

Master Libation
(Dayna McLeod, Canada, 2002, video, 4:30 min.)
This rickety-sticky animation features a lusty naked lady who is hell bent on getting off. Frustrated by her limited cable offering, she searches every room of her home for an old beau: her life-size vibrator. A game of seduction ensues that appears to climax with our heroine riding her rocket date into space, but actually culminates when she discovers that her electronic lover has left an attachment behind.

Blue Tuesday
(Lisa G, Canada, 2001, video, 2:46 min.)
Description: Stop motion barbie heartbreak. What good is self love when one is too depressed to enjoy it? When memories get in the way of moving on. Everyone can relate to this.

Pustulations
(Lisa Morse, Canada, 16mm, 2002, 8 min.)
Pustulations is a short animated film using the painting-on-glass technique. It is about one woman's compulsion to pick at her skin and the purulent, pustular world beneath it.

Shit Be Gone
(Dueck Angie, Canada, 2002, video, 4:40 min. ö clip)
The story of a girl who just wants help getting rid of her constipation and sickness ö which includes a crappy relationship with her sister, unwilling to help but does so in that begrudging sisterly way.

Pink-Eyed Pet
(Allyson Mitchell and Lex Vaughn, Canada, 2002, 16mm, 3 min.)
Sometimes topical treatments aren't enough to cure love's infections.

Au Commencement (In the Beginning)
(Laurent Leprince, Belgium, 2003, video, 3 min.)
Two gay sperms were never meant to fertilize an egg. But what if life decides otherwise?

Ambiguously Gay Duo #10
(JJ Sedelmaier, USA, video, 4 min.)
Another installment in the hilarious animated series about two 'questionable' superheroes named Ace and Gary.

Palvida Perfidy Vanessa
(Carlos Eduardo Nogueira, Brazil, 2002, video, 28 min.)
Vanessa suffers from physical schizophrenia. The only cure, is for her to become two different people.

Why You Were Born
(Kelly Spivey, USA, 2001, video, 6 min.)
This Kodachrome Super8 animation utilizes found images delicately cut from magazines from the 40âs through the 70's. A hand-held camera creates agitation and a frenetic frame speed penetrates womenâs roles shown in advertising, shattering them and then offering sadistic feminist and otherwise Sapphic solutions.

Bubble Canopy
(Michael Stecky, Canada, 2002, video, 4:30 min.)
Composer Michael Stecky's first video is an atmospheric play of animated inanimate objects. Shot entirely with a web-cam, Stecky originally conceived Bubble Canopy as gay wrestlers art porn. Instead Stecky builds sensual tensions weaving moirŽ patterns with a variety of vintage dolls, ashtrays, Mexican saints, and kitchen utensils.

A Miracle
(Daniel Barrow, Canada, 2003, video, 3 min.)
A music video created for the Toronto-based 'gay church folk' musicians, The Hidden Cameras, that documents Barrowâs performance methods ö an overhead projector to relay ideas and short narratives.

Free Bird
(Assume Vivid Astro Focus, USA, 2002, video, 4 min.)
"Free Bird is a lot about looking at things in a sort of explosive way, without preconceptions (or if you have them, let's get rid of them) like the first time you have chocolate ice cream."

Relacionamentos
(Gordeeff, Brazil, 2003, video, 5 min.)
An animated approach to some types of relationships.
